207 Occupation

As 1915 comes to an end, Bulgaria suddenly finds a war it entered mere months ago entering a new phase. With the Salonika front settling into stalemate, Bulgaria now takes the role of the occupier, working to crush anything connected to Serbia in newly conquered territories. But a single overriding questions hangs in the air, what to do next?

Timeline for this episode:

  • 1915, Nov 29th - Bulgarian troops take Gevgeli and Dorian while also inflicting a loss on a British division.

  • 1915, Dec 19th - Serbs living in Macedonia, Moravia, or Bulgaria begin to be interned by Bulgarian officials.

  • 1915, Dec 27th - The Gallipoli Campaign officially ends with an Entente defeat.

  • 1915, Dec 29th - Corfu is occupied by Entente forces prior to the Serbian army being transported there.

  • 1915, Dec 30th - Bulgaria law enters into force in Macedonia and Moravia.

  • 1916, Jan 18th - Tsar Ferdinand and Kaiser Willhelm meet in Nis. Ferdinand is made a German and Austrian Field Marshal. Two days later he is made a Bulgarian Field Marshal.

  • 1916, Jan 17th - Montenegro capitulates.

  • 1916, Jan 29th - Bulgarian troops take Elbasan and reach the Adriatic Sea.

  • 1916, Jan 31-Feb 24th - Armed conflict nearly breaks out between Bulgarian and Austrian troops over possession of Kosovo.

  • 1916, Feb 7th The Battle of Verdun begins.
