177 The Ilinden Uprising

Uprisings have begun in both Macedonia and Thrace, but whether the MRO can succeed where the Supremecists failed remains to be seen.

Timeline for this Episode

  • 1903 July 20th-Nov 2nd - The Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising.

  • 1903 July 22nd - The Krushevska republic is proclaimed with Nikola Karen at its helm.

  • 1903 Aug 5th - 14 Macedonian immigrant societies found the Supreme immigrant committee. On Aug 7th they send out a delegation to Petersburg, seeking support, but they are denied by the Russian government. On Aug 13th, the two committees organize a big meeting in Sofia in support of the uprising. On the 14th of Sept they organize a mourning procession attended by 20k people.

  • 1903 Aug 6th - The uprising starts in the Odrin region.

  • 1903 Aug 20th - The Service revolutionary district holds congress in Pirin.

  • 1903 Aug 31st - The Bulgarian government sends a note to the Great powers about fighting off the army of the potential Ottoman attack on Bulgaria.

  • 1903 Sept 3rd - The Universal patriarch sends a message to The Porte asking them to stop the revolts and restore the peace in Macedonia.

  • 1903 Sept 9th - the revolt’s headquarters send a plea to the Bulgarian government asking for help.

  • 1903 Sept 17-18th - The Kaisers support the Vienna reform program for Macedonia at a meeting in Vienna.

  • 1903, September 19th, first diplomatic relations between BG and US

  • 1903 Oct 1st - Under pressure from Great Britain, Russia and Austro-Hungary accept the Muerzsteg program of reforms in Macedonia. The program was given to The Gate on the Oct 22nd and rejected on Nov 3rd, but finally accepted on Nov 24th.

  • 1903 Oct 6th - A support mission sent by the Balkan Committee in London arrives in Bitolya and spends 5 months helping the victims of the revolt.

  • 1903 Oct 19th - The People’s Liberals win the 13th election cycle for the General Assembly. 41% voting activity.

  • 1903, Oct - Meeting between Tsar Nicholas and Emperor Ferdinand about status quo in Macedonia.

  • 1903 Nov 2nd - the 13th General Assembly convenes.
